Our Story
The Sober Travellers was born when a friend suggested that I combine my lifeline with my passion: sobriety and travel! (two things that – after some trial and error – Iāve managed to be fairly decent at).
The lightbulb in my head pinged and I thought maybe my partner and I (Tommy) can actually help people in a similar situation by sharing our experience as we travel around the globe. I noticed there was a lack of travelling sober content so⦠if the shoe fits and all? I researched the domain name and to my shock it was available so⦠straight into my basket that went! Likewise the social handles etc. Thatās pretty much it in terms of a solid plan of action.
Of course, Iāve had so many ideas about what The Sober Travellers could be, but for now Iām letting life do life and morph TST into whatever it is supposed to be. All the while Iāll create content with an aim of sharing my story to help and inspire people (and using it as a space to document my trips!).
So, why donāt you and I get to know each other a little, eh? Yes, I agree, our backgrounds may be very different. Our stories may not have a single thing in common, apart from one thing – but if you have a problem with alcohol, like I do, then you will also suffer from the phenomenon of craving or inability to control your drinking.
You will also highly likely suffer from the insanity associated with alcoholism. We now have something in common š
This also means that as we travel around the world, you and I will probably experience the same challenges. I hope that as I share my stories and produce content, any experiences I encounter may guide you and be useful to you in some way. And you never know, we might bump into each other on the road one day š
So pack your bags, jump on board, and welcome to the community. Remember – itās never too late to join The Sober Travellers community.

The “Personal Story”
Heya; Iām Chloe. Founder of The Sober Travellers.
Iām going to tell you my story, so that you know how TST was born.
On 22nd August 2022, I began the biggest and most amazing journey of my life so far – I got sober. Since then, Iāve been able to remember every single one of my epic travel adventures. But it wasnāt always like that.
I have put myself in so many ridiculous and often dangerous situations across the globe due to alcohol. In the name of honesty, I will enlighten you to some of the nightmares below:
– Locking myself out the hostel in Poland and ending up on the top floor of a construction site with men (who were trying to help me) whilst scrambling for relief with an aerosol can
– Downright embarrassing myself meeting my family down under in Australia for the first time after a gallon of prosecco (no, bare bottom photos in the photobooth and snatching the bouquet out of my cousins hands are not cool)
– Flying with a broken rib after falling head first into a basement (on a date – eek!)
– Drunk and disorderly fighting in Greece
– Nearly drowning in Mauritius after gulping home brew from 9am-5pm in blistering heat (I literally couldnāt stand)
– Waking up on a random bench in a strangers garden miles away from my accommodation in Spain
– Running away at 2am in -25 degrees in the Arctic Circle in a rage of paranoiaĀ
The list just goes on and you get the picture.. none of this happened after ājust a fewā.
Actually, one of the lowest points was inhaling an entire can of deodorant in a dark and dingy bath in Berlin because I couldnāt bear the idea of stopping the drinks I had started. I knew I was f*cked then but, obviously, like most of us, I still had a few more years of mayhem ahead of me.
What can be confusing is that actually, I have some really fond and funny drunken memories from around the world whilst drunk. For instance, the rolling on the floor laughing with your ultimate girl besties, running through corridors, causing chaos, getting tattoos together, and early morning shots in the airport. They were funny as heck and I look back with a smile on my face, but thatās the trickery and fine art of confusing alcoholism right there⦠We’ll talk about this later in other places.
So, as I said, since August 2022 Iāve been sober and my life has taken on a new meaning altogether. I havenāt just āput down the drinkā, Iāve grown as a woman; my patience, awareness, service and faith has morphed me into a better, more conscious person altogether. Now, Iām taking the new version of ME on the road.
That āMEā is 27, from Yorkshire, and Iāve had a pretty wild life but all things considering Iām normal-ish, chat to f*cking anybody, love to laugh and donāt take things too seriously; however, I do have a serious commitment to growth and faith in the unknown (and the sober travellers ;)).
The Sober Travellers never had a definitive image, it was always intended to be a space for me to share my journey as a sober person travelling around, and hopefully, that it might just help someone somewhere in the world. I also wanted it to be a space for like minded people to connect, and, obviously – itās also a great place for me to document my travels in general as Iām shite at social media so it forces me to keep in regular contact with the world and channel my energy into something creative thatās focused on supporting the community.
Also – if you like, I encourage you to get involved, reach out and share your story with me and really become part of the community! If you want to write for us, have your photo on our socials, or whatever, donāt be shy.
So friend, Bon-Voyage to you at whatever part of the journey you’re on. Read on and I hope we can help you. I care so much about suffering and sober alcoholics.
All my love,
Chloe xxxx
P.s. – my partner Tommy is also involved in The Sober Travellers – essentially, he just lets me have fun with all of this as a creative project lmao but itās very important to us to have a male presence here so you can expect to see him popping up from time to time. (Iām permanently on the road whilst he is on shorter trips).
